When staying in Bali for a longer period of time, you need a so-called Visa Run. This means you need to leave the country to be able to come back on a tourist visa legitimately. Most people pick Kuala Lumpur or Singapore since capital cities usually have the cheapest flight connections with Bali. We were in Kuala Lumpur last year and didn’t really like it that much. Since Singapore was the place we wanted to visit for a while, there was no doubt where to go.

Despite the moody weather, this city has so much to offer. So if you’re planning a visit to Singapore or you find yourself there in bad weather, read our top picks of what to do in Singapore when it’s raining!

Weather in Singapore

Singapore lies close to the Equator it has wet and dry seasons; in theory that is. With changing global climate conditions though, you expect the unexpected. Humid, hot, rainy, sunny, this city can have it all within a few hours. We visited in the end of June and had both light and heavy rain and hot sun, so dress in layers and always have an umbrella with you.

#1 Chill in luxurious hotels

You’re probably not visiting Singapore of the hotels, but wow do they come in handy when the weather is not on your side. There are many international chains so you have plenty of choices. The two hotels we stayed at in Singapore are both on the best hotels we ever stayed and they’re completely different.

St. Regis Singapore

If you’re looking for classy and pristine look no further. St. Regis’ décor, elite location and world class services made me feel like royalty or should I say Meghan Markle 🙂 We were told that North Korean president Kim stayed at the St. Regis just a few days before us during the historical Trump-Kim meeting. As Mr. Kim also enjoyed the comfort, the amazing breakfast bar as well as the customized dinner menu in one of the best Italian restaurants, ever!

W Singapore – Sentosa Cove

Sentosa is the island south of Singapore most famous for Universal Studios and the beaches. We only stayed one night in W but absolutely loved the place. It super hip with many different cool features and gadgets around the hotel as well is in the room. Think changing lighting depending on the mood, fony mirrors and unique styled furniture.

#2 Cloud Forest and Flower Dome

Walking on clouds, admiring a giant waterfall and exploring the flora from all over the world? You’ll find it all in those two sights in Gardens by the bay which are located right next to each other. This is the go to place when it’s raining in Singapore. Even if you’re not into flora, trust me you’ll find some interesting things in these two sights. Cloud Gate has a special section on climate change which we found fascinating.

#3 Supertree Grove

Located in Gardens by the bay, the Supertree Grove is probably the most instagrammable place in Singapore and it does look spectacular in reality too. It’s not all about the looks but the story behind; you might not know the mechanical trees are all self sustainable and in fact even produce solar electricity and collects rain water. I know it’s not under a roof but the area offers a shelter to hide if the rain starts pouring down.

#4 Crystal Universe at Future World; ArtScience

I’ve heard so many great reviews about Future World that we went there literally straight from the airport on our sunny arrival. However, the part I was looking for most, the Crystal Universe, was actually closed for renovation. Other areas of the Future World museum are honestly not that interesting but when Crystal Universe re-opens in September do pay a visit!

#5 Shopping

You can literally find everything you need in Singapore. We’re not much of shoppers ourselves, but with so many options we also find some great gear. It’s surprising that most items are equally expensive than in Europe or even cheaper for electronics. You might not think of it but if you’re looking for camera gear, Singapore has tons of options and with so much competition they’re open for negotiations… good luck!

When things are brighter

Chances are it will not be raining all the time. So when the rain stops make sure to visit:

Spectra Water Show & the Garden Rhapsody

The Spectra Water Show is an awesome outdoor light and water show which runs every evening in front of Marina Bay Sands. The Garden Rhapsody is a music and light show, just across the road at Supertree Grove. Both shows run every hour and almost simultaneously so head there after dinner and have a colourful evening. If you’re running out of time go for Spectra Water Show which is in our view even more spectacular. Both sites are free.

Little India

There’s a large Indian community in Singapore and most of them live in Little India. Colorful streets are ideal for an afternoon walk and taking some lovely photos.

Old Hill Police Station

Don’t judge the book by its covers! Singapore is known as having one of the tightest laws in the world. Yes, you will go to jail for littering after 1 warning and murder will leaving you hanging, literally! The main police station though is full of different colors worth visiting – voluntarily that is and from the outside only 😉

There you have it. No need to worry about bad weather while visiting Singapore, if you follow our these tips on things to do in Singapore when it’s raining!
