Koh Samui Palm Trees

Koh Samui is a posh island full of premium hotels, great restaurants and upscale stores. It is also one of the few Thai islands with its own airport making it one of the most touristic ones. In a rather small space there are more than 1,600 hotels, so competition is fierce. We didn’t come to the island for the hotels though but rather the beaches and palm trees of Koh Samui.

We’ve been writing so much about beautiful beaches lately like Krabi and Koh Phangan that it is now time to pay tribute to the other ingredient that make up every dreamy tropical place – palm trees. One more reason is that Koh Samui was in fact not our favorite in terms of beaches but it’s definitely got our vote for its palm trees.

#1 Viewpoint near The Beach Samui

The Southern part treated us with some of the best palm trees in Koh Samui. This one is close to the Beach Samui hotel. Climb up ladder and enjoy the views.

#2 The Walking Palm tree

Further down the road of the viewpoint is this walkable palm tree with no one around. Make sure to keep your balance!

#3 Koh Samui’s Palm Trees jungle

There are many palm trees all around the island but the highest density we’ve seen is by the main road in the South (4170) near Sweet Sisters Café Organic.

#4 Palm trees over sandbanks

Koh Samui does have the sand banks and are definitely the island’s best kept secret! Visit at the sunset when the tide is the lowest and run over the banks and shallow water. We flew the drone over to capture it properly, yet we almost couldn’t land it as 2 doggies joined us running around and trying to catch the drone. For my dog whisperer’s capabilities 🙂 they joined me for cuddles while Žiga ran away and successfully land it! Where to find those? On the viewpoint #2 climb the latter and you’ll see them on your left!

#5 Cliff viewpoint

Just a few meters further North from Silver beach and right next to the Cliff Restaurant we found this nice cliffy viewpoint overlooking the South Eastern part of the island.

#6 Baan Saitara

What better way to stay than atop those palm trees in Koh Samui? You might argue that it is better to stay under one though you have 30 times higher chance of getting killed than by a shark. Who said we don’t love statistics? 🙂 Baan Saitara is a beautiful complex of about 10 villas with each its stunning views. Watching down the beautiful ocean in front of your own large pool was truly breathtaking. It’s the place to stay at Koh Samui.

When in Koh Samui do make sure to make a trip to Ang Thong National Park and experience our favorite view in Thailand!

  • Hi, I really love your pictures!
Do you remember where exactly you found the sand banks? It looks amazing and I would like to search that spot next year!
    Best regards

    • Hi Larissa, thanks! That was in the South part of Koh Samui, near the hotel "The Beach Samui". It's best that you park there and stroll around the beautiful sand banks ;)
